March 12, 2015 Meeting - Make An Impression!

Make An Impression!

It's lots of fun.

Teacher:  Sue Grant
Cost: $15 payable to Sue

Sue suggests you check out the artwork
 of Paul Bozzo for inspiration.

In the first part of the class, we will be using rubber stamps and other items to make impressions in joint compound applied to hardboard panels.  Your creation which will have to be painted later at home due to the drying time of the compound.  Preparation of your panel can be messy, so you may want to wear old clothes or an apron.

To give us experience in how to paint our own panel at home, Sue will prepare a second panel in advance for each of us to paint in the second segment of the class.

All supplies will be provided to make the panel, except the following which you  should bring:

  • Brushes-3/4" to 1" wide-preferably with soft bristles. It makes it easier to spread the varnish.
  • paper towels
  • soft rag for removing paint
  • rubber stamps- if you have some that you would like to use
  • old doily- if you don't mind using it on the plaster
The deadline to Sign up  is March 7, to allow Sue time to prepare a panel for you to paint in class.

DecoArt Americana Chalky Finish Paints

We experimented with the new DecoArt Chalky Finish Paints at our May meeting.

We had a small group attend, but had lots of creativity going on trying these new paints on a variety of surfaces.

I did mine on a pre-finished cabinet door to test durability over a previously varnished surface, and I can report the paints don't seem to budge once applied.

What fun!

January 9, 2014 - Meeting Canceled

I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday, and that everyone is staying warm this week!

Sorry for the short notice, but I talked with Deb this morning and we are going to cancel our January 9 meeting due to the extreme weather this week and because Deb is swamped with "after the holiday" backlog.  I also apologize for the lack of an actual newsletter for a couple months in a row... I took a 2-1/2 week vacation over the holidays and now I'm paying for it with a large backlog of work.

Once again, we will bump the fabric painting class Deb was going to teach to our February 13th meeting since we don't have anything else firmed up for that meeting project.  I will send a newsletter out at the end of the month, so if you have anything you would like for me to include, please email or call me.

Clermont UC Art Show
Please bring (or email to me) your bio and sample projects or project photos to our February meeting if you would like to participate in the application for the 2014/15 art show season at the Clermont UC extension.

Recipes for Christmas Buffet
We had talked about how much everyone enjoyed the treats at our Christmas dinner, so if you would like to share the recipe for your potluck dish, please email it to me and I will publish them in our next newsletter.  I know there were several I would like to fix at home.

Prayer List
Please continue your prayers for Deb's brother and Margie's son who is continuing his ongoing battle with cancer and is going through another round of chemo.

Also, I just learned on Facebook yesterday, that Peggy Harris (who taught at our chapter a little over a year ago) has been diagnosed with breast cancer and will be undergoing surgery tomorrow.  Keep her in your thoughts and prayers.

I'll see you in February.
